more questions?
- There are a couple of different ways to
identify the engine size and year of your vehicle.
First the most accurate and reliable way is the VIN#.
The tenth digit of the VIN will
always tell the year of the vehicle through a code
known by those in the automotive industry. On most
domestic cars the engine size can be determined by
the eighth digit of the VIN#. This is also determined
by a code. Some foreign cars use the fourth or sixth
digit to identify the size of the engine. When trying
to determine engine size or year of vehicle it is
always a good idea to have your VIN# handy. Some
other quick ways of figure out what year and size of
an engine is to look for stickers under the hood.
There are generally two stickers that will tell you
the year and engine size but you have to look closely
because the print is usually very small. It also a
good idea to know if you have a 4cyl, 6cyl, or 8cyl.
This could also help determine you engine
size.

- Harris Auto Salvage has a large number of
used car and truck parts on the shelf such as
engines, transmissions, lights. mirrors, etc. We also
have a large number of used car and truck parts that
remain on the vehicle for testing purposes and to
preserve shelf space.
more questions?
- Not all car and truck parts that are sold by
us are removed from a recycled automobile or truck.
Some parts are considered too risky to sell such as
brake lines, brake pads, etc.... Other small car and
truck parts are not removed to keep larger parts
intact. These larger car and truck parts are deemed
more valuable when purchased as complete. Parts that
are too labor intensive to remove when compared with
replacing the part with a new car or truck part are
left on the recycled vehicle. Although a majority of
the parts on a car are removed for sale it is always
best to ask first.
more questions?
- Buying recycled parts is a great way to
obtain original equipment and parts exclusively
manufactured for your vehicle. The cost of these used
car and truck parts are usually at least half the
price of a new part. Recycled auto parts gives you an
inexpensive way to have your vehicle repaired. Using
recycled car and truck parts also reduces the
production of new car and truck parts. This recycling
saves natural resources such as new metals, raw
materials and energy. Most car and truck parts are
manufactured using crude oil and petroleum so
automotive recycling is crucial to preserving our
environment.
